Guests who need to access UM computer services and networks will need to be granted access to various UMIT computer services. These services are requested by a UM faculty member or Administrator ( Host ) to allow affiliates ( Guest ) to participate in UM endeavors. Full information is available at https://it.miami.edu/_assets/pdf/security/remote-access-policy-09262016-final.pdf.

NOTE that UMIT account access below is terminated when a Student/Research-Associate/Staff-Member/Faculty leaves Rosenstiel School.
Alumnii retain email services for life (current policy) but no other account services. Faculty retain account services for one year from their departure date. Departed faculty who need to continue to have access for continuing research projects past that year need have their department chair or dean ask HR to request the required services. See the Account Termination page for details.

CaneID

If the guest has been affiliated with UM in the past, they may have a CaneID and password. They can access/update that information by following links at http://caneid.miami.edu. New guests and those with expired CaneID will need to set up a new CaneID and get a UMid number (C########) by logging in to https://caneid.miami.edu and selecting Register for a CaneID. Once granted, the Guest must record their. CaneID and UMid (C########). You will need this information for most other sorts of network/computer access. requests

UM Email Address

Email accounts are retained for Alums and for one year for Faculty. Staff and Research Personnel lose their accounts on departure. Guests will not generally require a UM email address unless they need a UM Center for Computational Science [CCS] account. The host for the guest should submit the form at https://dotnet.cgcent.miami.edu/Forms/Default.aspx to request an account.

Restore Email Account for Research Personnel

Alumni accounts do not expire, but for non-alum research persons, if an expired account needs to be retained for them to continue working on the UM research and publications, then the supervisor/principle-investigator for the departed person should submit an EDR form, https://www.it.miami.edu/wda/it/Electronic Data Request Form.pdf. See an example form here.

This cannot currently be done until after the staff member has departed. It should be done in a timely manner before the accounts go inactive; within a month is good. Contact rcf-support@rsmas.miami.edu [xt 54028] for assistance.

UM Cloud storage services

After termination of an existing UMIT account, cloud storage access is lost. Files are retained for 180 days before deletion. Prior to that time you can ask that GSO or your Department Chair to ask UMIT for an access window to copy your files to your personal storage.
Contact rcf-support@rsmas.miami.edu if this is an issue.

SecureCanes Wireless Access

If you require access to the wireless network from the Rosenstiel School or UM campus, a form should be filled in and submitted to setup guest access to SecureCanes by the guest’s host. https://umiami.service-now.com/self-service/nav_content.do?sysparm_page=Network Access Request&sysparm_url=com.glideapp.servicecatalog_cat_item_view.do?sysparm_id=3e1545fc131d9f802cf030128144b04b.

VPN

If VPN access is needed (required for CCS access), the Guest’s host should submit the form at http://it.miami.edu/_assets/pdf/ReqForVendorVPNAccessForm.pdf. Enter a block for each Rosenstiel School client the guest needs to access from the outside.

Destinations:
Server IP: IP address of the target computer at CCS or Rosenstiel School
Protocol: tcp and udp
PortNumbers: 22 for linux/mac ssh login access, 3389 for windows rdp login.

Once granted you should be able to set up VPN as per http://it.miami.edu/a-z-listing/virtual-private-network/index.html.

CCS

You must have a UM email address and use UM VPN to access CCS machines from off campus, then you can request a CCS account at http://portal.ccs.miami.edu/portal/accounts/new_account/. If there are issues with that, the CCS help desk can be reached at hpc@ccs.miami.edu.

If you had and existing CCS account at termination it will be archived for 90 days after your departure. If you have email and vpn access, you can request that the account be restored at hpc@ccs.miami.edu.

Mailing Lists

Guests can be subscribed to appropriate email lists (info, seminar, notice, campussafety) at Rosenstiel School if they wish. Send requests to rcf-support with the lists desired, email address to subscribe, and name of the guest’s host-person to UMIT/Rosenstiel School support
